The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed on a new four-year contract with Edge Rusher Shaquil Barrett. This means that the Super Bowl winner also has his third top free agent after linebacker Lavonte David and wide receiver Chris Godwin.
Barrett will receive a total of $ 72 million, of which $ 36 million is guaranteed. Before multiple media reported the commitment unanimously, Barrett revealed the news to journalist Josina Anderson: “I’m going back to Tampa.”
Barrett was considered the best edge rusher on the market and has been an absolute top performer since joining the Buccaneers in 2019. In two years in North Florida, he had 27.5 sacks and 93 pressures. In the past playoffs, Barrett scored a total of four sacks and 8 QB hits on the way to the Bucs’ second Super Bowl triumph.
Barrett was originally an Undrafted Rookie of the Denver Broncos in 2014 and played there until 2018, mostly as a supplementary player. It wasn’t until the Bucs that he made his breakthrough in 2019.
Barrett’s cap number for 2021 will be a mere $ 5.6 million, so most of his salary for the upcoming season will consist of his signing bonus, the amount of which is still unknown.
