The Buffalo Bills have agreed on a new four-year deal worth $ 44 million with linebacker Matt Milano. Otherwise, the 26-year-old would have become a free agent.
As Adam Schefter of ESPN reports, the contract includes guarantees of $ 24 million. Milano was considered the best cover linebacker on the market after Lavonte David had previously extended to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Milano was a five-round pick of the Bills in the 2017 draft and has been a starter in Head Coach Sean McDermott’s team since 2018. Milano is an example of reliability and only missed four out of 48 possible games by the 2020 season.
In 2020, however, he was injured six times and his absence made itself felt. The only regular season defeats for the Bills happened when Milano was injured.
The Bills had to do quite a bit of work before the deal to create Cap Space. Center Mitch Morse and Vernon Butler’s contracts were restructured. In addition, wide receiver John Brown and defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson were sacked. All of this saved $ 14 million in Cap Space.
