The Free Agency in the NFL is imminent. Until Tuesday evening, however, the teams were allowed to sign a maximum of one service provider, whose contract was about to expire, for a further year per franchise day. Numerous well-known players were withdrawn from the market in this way.
In particular, the top of the wide receiver market was thinned out. The Chicago Bears gave Allen Robinson Franchise Tag for the second time, and Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay tagged Chris Godwin.
Godwin, who was only able to play twelve regular season games (840 Yars, 7 TDs) due to injury problems last season, shone with a total of 16 catches in the postseason. In 2019 he had 1,333 receiving yards, so it’s no wonder that the Bucs don’t want to give him up. Under the franchise tag, Godwin Stand would now collect $ 16.5 million annual salary, but both sides still have a long-term contract extension in mind.
With this, Lions receiver Kenny Golladay shoots to the top of the receiver market: Detroit decided not to commit its number 1 receiver for another year.
With the Safeties Justin Simmons (Denver Broncos), Marcus Williams (New Orleans Saints) and Marcus Maye (New York Jets), two defensive aces remain with their previous teams: However, Maye’s negotiations with the Jets are going badly, his adviser criticized the team recently even posted it on Twitter. Simmons, pro-bowler last season, will play under the franchise tag for the second year in a row.
With Cam Robinson (Left Tackle, Jacksonville Jaguars), Taylor Moton (Right Tackle, Carolina Panthers) and Brandon Scherff (Guard, Washington Football Team), three linemen were also tied by the franchise tag. The only defensive lineman to get the day is Leonard Williams. The Giants defender would play under the correspondingly expensive day for the second year in a row, here both sides are working on a long-term deal.
