The New York Jets are apparently ready to trade quarterback Sam Darnold after only three years on the team. This was indicated by General Manager Joe Douglas in a video conference with reporters.
“I’ll take the call if someone makes it,” Douglas said meaningfully on Wednesday. He thus confirmed previous media reports that the jets were indeed ready to trade Darnold.
The quarterback personality is the Jets’ biggest decision in the coming weeks and months, because with the second pick overall in the upcoming NFL draft, they could be Darnold’s successor. There is also still a scenario to trade for Houston’s quarterback Deshaun Watson.
The latter, however, seems unlikely because the Jets have too many other construction sites in their roster, most of which are to be tackled via the draft. A trade for Watson, on the other hand, would potentially use up too many of the available resources.
When asked about this scenario, Douglas explained the team’s philosophy: “To get to where the biggest and most consistent teams are, you have to build through the draft. It’s the friendliest market for teams in sports. So that we one To become a team that can constantly compete for Super Bowls, we have to score hits with our draft picks. “
Concerning the personalities of Marcus Maye, Douglas emphasized that the jets were interested in a long-term contract with Safety. He also spoke of “productive conversations”. However, the Franchise Day is still in the room for Maye, which can be awarded until March 9th.
