With the throw of the Vince Lombardi Trophy Tom Brady caused a sensation at the Super Bowl Parade of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The trophy survived the throw from one boat to the other unscathed – but Brady should now apologize.
The Buccaneers did not celebrate their Super Bowl title with a parade through town, but continued the festivities with a boat parade. The players spread over numerous ships and celebrated the title together from there.
In the middle? Quarterback Tom Brady, who not only made people laugh when he left the festivities visibly drunk – but was also responsible for the biggest moment of shock when he threw the venerable Vince Lombardi Trophy from one boat to the other across the water.
The trophy arrived and was safely caught, but the action is not forgotten. At least not for everyone.
Lorraine Grohs, daughter of Greg Grohs, who designed the first Vince Lombardi Trophy in the service of Tiffany & Co., has meanwhile spoken to Fox 4 – and asks for an apology.
“I was very upset that the trophy was treated in such a disrespectful and undignified manner by being thrown over the water like a real football. It is such an honor to have this trophy designed by my father, and I know all the forges that created them when my father was still at Tiffany’s. There is a lot of hard work behind it, “said Grohs, who also emphasized that she even had trouble sleeping because of the incident.
And further: “I personally would like to hear an apology. Not only for me and my family and the other blacksmiths, but also for the fans, all football fans and the players of the other team.”
