It should be the second New Year’s Eve without fireworks. Scientists and pyrotechnics associations are going to the barricades. Celebrating indoors is even more dangerous.
Hamburg – In all of Germany there should be a ban on fireworks and gatherings on New Year’s Eve. The federal and state governments decided on Thursday, December 2nd. This is to avoid corona infections and fireworks injuries, which would burden the hospitals. The fireworks industry defends itself with sharp criticism. Scientists also consider the ban to be pointless.
* 24hamburg.de reveals here how the chances are that there may still be blasting in Hamburg.
The ban will ruin an entire industry. The Federal Association of Pyrotechnics and the Association of the Pyrotechnic Industry predict the “death knell” for their branch. Much of the sales for many fireworks companies come on New Year’s Eve. Virologists and aerosol experts also consider the ban to make little sense. The concern: If people are no longer allowed to celebrate outdoors with fireworks, then they retreat to stuffy interiors, where most of the contagion takes place.
The fireworks associations are now planning a lawsuit against the ban. It remains to be seen whether there will be enough time to successfully complete legal steps shortly before New Year’s Eve. * 24hamburg.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
