New Year’s Eve 2021 should be quiet: The sale of firecrackers and fireworks at the turn of the year will be prohibited again. A survey gives a clear picture of how the population thinks that.
Berlin – Two thirds of the citizens in Germany support the comprehensive sales ban for firecrackers on New Year’s Eve.
In a survey by the opinion research institute YouGov on behalf of the dpa, 66 percent of those questioned supported the measure that the federal and state governments have agreed on because of the corona pandemic. Only 27 percent think the decision is wrong. 7 percent did not provide any information.
Relieve hospitals
The Federal Council approved the federal-state resolution on Friday. As in the previous year, no fireworks are allowed to go over the shop counters before the turn of the year. The aim is to avoid accidents caused by the improper use of firecrackers and rockets and thus to relieve the hospitals already extremely burdened by Corona.
Among the Greens voters, support for the firecrackers ban is particularly high at 84 percent. They are followed by supporters of the SPD (76 percent), the left (72), the CDU / CSU (68) and the FDP (58 percent). Only the AfD voters mostly reject the ban on the sale of fireworks: 59 percent of them are against it. dpa
