The curvature motor is familiar to all fans of science fiction from cases such as the famous Star Trek saga, whose Starfleet ships use this propulsion. Well, the United States DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Planning Office) has reported accidentally creating a warp bubble that would allow travel through space at a speed greater than the speed of light.
Initially, we knew that Miguel Alcubierre, a Mexican mathematician, addressed the drive of the curvature motor through his mathematical calculation. In 1994, he proposed that this science fiction-like discovery could allow spacecraft to traverse the universe without violating any laws of physics.
Scientist Harold G “Sonny” White, a pioneer of warp drives and a former NASA warp drive specialist, has been the one to expose this milestone about the discovery of a “warp bubble” in the real world. According to White, this first advance of its kind from his team at the Limitless Space Institute (LSI) sets a new starting point for those trying to build a full-size spacecraft capable of space-time warping.
From science fiction to reality
The bend motor is the ability to travel faster than light. A real possibility?
In an interview with The Debrief White blog, he said that “to be clear, our finding is not an analog of the warp bubble, it is a real warp bubble, albeit humble and small. Hence its importance.”
A warp bubble is a subspace-appearing phenomenon that engulfs a spacecraft and distorts the space-time continuum of the spacecraft to propel it.
The world’s first curvature bubble – albeit tiny – emerged as an accidental discovery by DARPA-funded researchers, according to the latest report. The Limitless Space Institute (LS) team detected an interesting encounter that could be used by spacecraft for faster travel through the cosmos.
In the future, White and his team hope to design a “bend drive craft.” They would use a model at the nanoscopic level, “a model of a 1-micron diameter sphere located in the center of a four-micron-diameter cylinder,” to see if it has a qualitative correlation with the one proposed by Alcubierre. White believes that the nanostructures could be used to achieve the negative energy density distribution required by the Alcubierre engine, a unit of curvature that does not require exotic materials. This investigation could be classified as confidential by the Pentagon .
