For Germans, a lot is about food over the holidays. The right feast is a tradition, especially at Christmas.
Hamburg – Very few Germans just eat anything at Christmas. What is served on Christmas Eve must either be festive or have a very special tradition.
* 24hamburg.de has found out what Germans prefer to eat at Christmas.
Right at the front are the typical German sausages with potato salad, which over 30 percent of Germans eat on Christmas Eve. Roast goose and duck are also popular, closely followed by fondue and raclette. On Christmas Day, however, the sausages move right to the bottom of the list. On December 25th, Germans like to eat a festive roast of poultry, beef or pork.
When it comes to sweets, biscuits are at the top of the list for Germans. 51 percent of those surveyed prefer to eat vanilla croissants and the like during the Christmas season. Gingerbread and chocolate Santa Clauses are also popular. Stollen, nuts and marzipan, on the other hand, are not for everyone.
In Hamburg, people dance a little out of line at Christmas. In the north, people like to eat fish over the holidays, especially carp, which has been a traditional Christmas dish for centuries. Fried fish with fried potatoes or Labskaus are also popular holiday dishes in the north. * 24hamburg.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
