Archaeologist Milena Wingenfeld has successfully traveled back in time on Löherstrasse in Fulda: An old canal was discovered there when houses were demolished.
Fulda – A few hundred years ago, the canal was still carrying sewage, mainly from the production of the tanners who worked skins for people’s daily use. Hence the Löherstraße – street of the tanners – in Fulda should have got its name. Today Wingenfeld can no longer determine how many tanneries were located in the street. The historical documents are missing for this.
But now it is at least certain that a sewer ran behind the houses with the numbers 44 and 46. The houses are among the oldest in the city and date from the 14th century. What the archaeologist was able to find out about the history of the canal reveals fuldaerzeitung.de *. As Wingenfeld explained, they are working together with the client, Nicole Lomb, to preserve the ground monument, which is not that easy with this building project. * fuldaerzeitung.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
