Popular Amazon- owned live video streaming website Twitch has banned an Amazon Prime Video channel after a presenter appeared to accidentally bare her breast during a live show. The official channel of Prime Video in Spanish was suspended from Twitch at the end of last December, without the company publicly giving a reason. However, the broadcast of the talk show Esto es un Late, where the incident occurred, continued to air for a while.
Strict rules about nudity
“For those presenting as female, we ask that you cover your nipples . We do not allow exposed lower breasts,” the service’s community guidelines say. It also does not allow “sexually suggestive content” such as a camera focus on “breasts, buttocks, or the pelvic region.”
The hosts of Esto es un Late were at the end of their usual weekend broadcast when one of them, comedian Henar Alvarez , lifted his shirt halfway up, apparently joking that it was a way to end the hour-long broadcast. . “We’re about to be censored,” he said with a laugh. “Come on. They’re going to ban us!” he continued.
Then the transmission was cut and gave way to an infographic, although then the direct returned just a fraction of a second before Henar Álvarez’s chest disappeared. The stream quickly ended, but a few hours later the channel was banned from Twitch .
Problems with sexually suggestive content
Another of the co-hosts, Mister Jagger, later tweeted that Esto es un Late is the “best show in the world.” In any case, beyond the chest of Henar Álvarez, the incident has meant that it is the first time that a brand owned by Amazon has been banned on Twitch , a platform owned by Amazon itself.
It is not clear how long the suspension of Prime Video Spain will last. Twitch generally does not make the details of its disciplinary actions public, and the length of bans can vary.
The streaming giant also has an appeals process for those seeking to have the ban lifted or shortened. Twitch, which started out as a video game streaming site but has morphed into a platform for everything, has had several issues over the years with sexually suggestive content.
Not long ago, women who dressed in a way that some considered suggestive and provocative were derisively referred to as “bags of confetti” by critics. That led the platform to carry out a thorough review of the “dress code” in 2018, although there is no broad consensus between the platform and users to decide what is decent and what is not.
More recently, the emergence of the “hot tub meta,” where streamers broadcast in bathing suits from a hot tub, raised similar questions about what should and shouldn’t be allowed in portal broadcasts.
