Will Spotify soon end “The Joe Rogan Experience” on Spotify? The podcast was not only caught in the crossfire of criticism because of the Corona statements.
Los Angeles – The drama about the podcaster Joe Rogan has another act. As reported by The Independent, among others, Rogan’s “The Joe Rogan Experience”, the most listened to podcast on Spotify, has repeatedly been unavailable. On Monday morning (February 21, 2022), users were unable to access it either on the Spotify website or in the apps. The show from the USA was also briefly unavailable on Friday. Spotify justified this with technical problems.
The Swedish platform had secured the exclusive rights to the podcast in 2020 – according to media reports for 100 million dollars. Joe Rogan had been caught in the crossfire of many critics in the past few months. Initially because Joe Rogan had repeatedly invited prominent corona vaccination opponents for his podcast. The 54-year-old also spoke out against corona vaccinations for children and young people.
Joe Rogan: Neil Young has all his music removed from Spotify
Finally, in January 2022, rock legend Neil Young gave Spotify an ultimatum: “You can have Rogan or you can have Young. Not both.” His former bandmates David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash as well as singer Joni Mitchell followed the music legend’s call for a boycott. More than 200 medical experts then signed a letter addressed to Spotify. In this letter, the experts are seeking confirmation that The Joe Rogan Experience is a source of misinformation regarding the coronavirus.
Joe Rogan podcast scandal: apology followed
Another scandal followed. Joe Rogan has had to apologize for repeatedly using the “N-word” used to racially insult black people on his podcast. At the same time, he asserted that he had “never used the word to be racist because I am not a racist”.
Spotify boss Daniel Ek has criticized Rogan’s use of the word – but stuck by the podcaster. He stands by his decision to keep the podcaster on the platform because he wants to promote “all types of creators.” “I don’t think the answer is to shut up Joe,” he also recently wrote to Spotify staff.
