With the beginning of the new month, many changes will come into force again in March 2022. Among other things, the Corona rules are relaxed.
Kassel – In March 2022 there will be some changes again in Germany. New laws come into force, the Corona rules* are being adjusted and an important deadline is coming to an end. We have summarized the most important innovations.
The federal and state governments have decided to gradually relax the corona measures. A first step has already come into force: Private meetings of vaccinated and recovered people are allowed again without restrictions and there are no longer any access restrictions in retail. Two further easing steps will follow in March 2022.
Changes in March 2022: New Corona rules apply
From March 4, 2022, access to the catering and hotel industry nationwide should no longer only be possible for vaccinated and recovered people, but also for unvaccinated people with a negative test (3G). Discotheques and clubs are allowed to open with 2G-Plus and major events are possible with 2G or 2G-Plus.

From March 20th, most of the Corona requirements will no longer apply. The day is therefore also known as “Freedom Day”. But there should still be “basic protection” afterwards. The Bundestag still has to discuss its precise form. Among other things, a mask requirement indoors should be included. The home office obligation also ends on March 20, 2022.
Change in March 2022: Corona vaccination comes into force
From mid-March, an important change will apply to people who work in healthcare professions or care for people in need of care and people with disabilities. Because in medical and nursing facilities, from March 16, 2022, there will be a facility-related vaccination requirement. Those affected must prove by March 15 that they have been vaccinated against Corona.
Those who are not allowed to be vaccinated must provide proof of this by the March 15 deadline. Employers must inform the health authorities if this does not happen. These may prohibit employment in the facility. Recently there has been criticism and open questions about the concrete implementation in several federal states.
New for consumers: Contracts can be terminated more easily
In the case of long-term contracts such as with fitness studios or streaming services, there are simplifications for consumers. Shorter notice periods apply to contracts concluded after March 1, 2022. So it will be easier to cancel contracts.
So far, contracts have often been extended by one year. From March, tacit contract extensions are only permitted if the contract is extended indefinitely and can be terminated on a monthly basis. According to the consumer advice center, it will be easier for you to terminate these contracts in the future.

Clock change in March 2022 and new insurance plates for mopeds
In March, the clock will be changed again. The changeover from winter to summer time is on March 27th. On the night from Saturday to Sunday, the clock is put forward by one hour from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. So you get an hour less sleep that night. From then on, however, it will stay light longer in the evenings.
There is also a change for owners of small motorcycles such as mopeds. From March 1st, they will have to change their insurance number, as they do every year. The blue signs become invalid and are replaced by green ones.
Grace period from March in the garden: hedges may not be cut
Hobby gardeners should be aware of an important deadline that ends in late February. Because from March 1, 2022, hedges and trees may no longer be cut. Cutting hedges and trees is prohibited until September 30th.

This regulation is laid down in the Federal Nature Conservation Act and is referred to as a grace period. The reason for the ban is that hedges and trees are important breeding and nesting sites for certain animal species and their habitat should not be destroyed. If you violate the ban, depending on the federal state and the length of the pruning of hedges and trees, there is a penalty of up to 100,000 euros*.
