Effects of the Ukraine conflict: In Hamburg there are concerns about the gas supply for households. What happens if the Russian President actually turns off the gas tap?
Hamburg – Russia’s military attack on Ukraine came as a shock to all of Europe. The actions of Russian President Putin do not only affect these two countries. Germany could also be affected.
24hamburg.de reveals what the Putin war has to do with the high gas prices in Hamburg.
Russia is the largest gas supplier in Europe and also supplies Germany with 55 percent natural gas energy. In response to Putin’s declaration of war, the EU and the US have imposed sanctions on the country restricting Russia’s global financial and stock markets, transport sector, air traffic and visa policy. Should Putin literally turn off the gas tap as a reaction, this will also affect Germany.
Although the country has taken precautions and one does not have to reckon with an energy shortage until winter, it could drive up gas prices even more if Russian gas suddenly disappeared from the market. But the citizens of Hamburg can rest easy: Should it come to that, savings will first be made in terms of gas supply in industry and not in private individuals. According to Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck, who stopped the Nord Stream plans before the attack, the costs should be within an acceptable range. In the worst case, Germany could get along without Russian gas. * 24hamburg.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
