This is the product that ASUS has withdrawn after several complaints that it smelled like smoke

The famous company ASUS has been forced to withdraw a product after some users reported that the motherboards of their computers were melting. A few weeks ago, ASUS technical support suddenly received hundreds of reports alleging that several motherboards of the Z690 Hero model, manufactured by the company, were burning and producing smoke after being used in a completely normal way.

Asus acknowledged the flaw and said that it could potentially affect several specific units manufactured in early 2021. The Z690 Hero is a high-end motherboard that is usually installed in specific laptops for gamers (lovers of video games).

Something smells burnt at ASUS

To clarify, the motherboard is the bit where all the other parts of a computer are connected. Most of the affected users reported seeing a Bios warning code of 53 on the screen of their computers, indicating a PC memory initialization failure.

Others smelled smoke coming from under their devices, finding burn marks on the bottom of their devices, while one user reported via the popular news-sharing platform Reddit that a real fire had been set in his house because of the failure of his computer. On Reddit, user TheMaxXHD said that he was browsing the internet when his PC shut down. He explains that when he picked up the device and turned it over to examine it more closely, he saw a component on the motherboard literally catch fire.

Asus acknowledged the problem through a statement that it published on its website and spread on all its social media profiles, and where it warned that this failure could “affect units manufactured in early 2021” with a part and a number of specific series that he provided so that all those affected users could make a formal claim.

Owners of affected motherboards that include such a serial number can check the product packaging to see if their hardware is affected. Customers can also enter their serial number on the ASUS website to see if their computer model might be one of the defective ones.

The company has also assured that it has recently received several reports of incidents related to the ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard. Additionally, it clarified that the issue potentially affects units manufactured during the first months of 2021, with part number 90MB18E0-MVAAY0 and serial numbers beginning with MA, MB, or MC.
