In Cologne, the incidence increased rapidly a week after Shrove Monday 2022. Can the Cologne carnival be identified as the reason for this?
Cologne – While it was almost eerily quiet in large parts of the city during the Cologne Carnival*, in the Zülpicher district more than 25,000 revelers crowded together and celebrated the great days together. So it does not seem surprising that the incidence on March 7, 2022, i.e. exactly one week after Shrove Monday*, in Cologne* is over 2,300. The city explains that there has been a rapid increase in corona numbers, especially in the age group 20 to 29.
24RHEIN* shows what influence the Cologne Carnival 2022 could have on the infection process.
According to the city, around 100,000 people in Cologne had themselves tested per carnival day. This results in well over half a million tests in the city area during the fun days of 2022. (mon) *24RHEIN is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
