A cruise ship suddenly ran aground off the Dominican Republic. The ship is to be freed with the next high tide.
SANTO DOMINGO – A large cruise ship has run aground in the Caribbean just off the Dominican Republic. On board are 3000 tourists and 1600 crew members.
The reason was a “strong wind” on the north coast of the Caribbean state, as reported by Navy chief Ramón Betances Hernández on Monday (March 14, 2022). “There is no danger to passengers or crew at the moment,” he said.

The cruise ship is the “Norwegian Escape”, as announced by AFP. According to the website of the operating company Norwegian Cruise Line, the ship is 300 meters long. The “Norwegian Escape” also weighs 165,000 tons. The cruise ship can accommodate up to 4200 passengers and 1700 crew members.
In order to free the ship from the current situation, one now waits for the next high tide. The hope is that the ship could sail through them again.
