This morning a detachment of material was reported at kilometer 37 of the corridor where the works of the Cruce de la Cordillera Central project were being carried out.
The road that leads from Cajamarca (Tolima) to Calarcá (Quindío) has been closed for seven continuous days due to the demonstrations that have been called in the framework of the national strike. This morning an additional event was added to the situation that keeps the passage blocked: a collapse.

According to the report of the National Institute of Roads (Invías), the detachment of material on the road occurred at kilometer 37 of the corridor, in a sector known as Cinabrio, where a series of interventions and improvements had been carried out that had to be suspended and left unfinished, which represents a risk to the structure and people.
The works on this road that promises to reduce travel times between Cajamarca and Calarcá are completely stopped by the blockades. Invías asked the protesters and the leaders of the strike for humanitarian access so that their engineers, machinery and personnel could enter the corridor to clear the road after the collapse.
“In different sectors, at kilometer 37, at kilometer 38, at kilometer 10, landslides have occurred in various sectors of the work, affecting the sites that were under construction, which has been affected by blockades and demonstrations since we cannot access to see the status of the works and assess the damage. We cannot lose what has been executed or allow it to continue to deteriorate because it could further delay the activities of this strategic route for the region and the country, ”explained Invías General Director Juan Esteban Gil.
The entity clarified that the collapse is not in the La Línea Tunnel, nor in the complementary works of the Central Cordillera Crossing project, which entered service on September 4.
The Ministry of Transport has met in recent weeks with different actors in the transport sector to lift the blockades. However, it has not been possible to do the same with those who maintain the closure on this road that connects the center of the country with the Coffee Axis and which is the main route to the port of Buenaventura.
