Egocentric, self-centered and insensitive to what happens to those around them . Such are many of the individuals who have suffered a severe head injury , usually due to a severe blow to the head, according to a study by the University of New South Wales (Australlia) published recently in the specialized journal Cortex .
Experts attribute these symptoms to a partial loss of empathy after brain damage. This means that those affected become unable to recognize emotions in other individuals, which makes them "social invalids". And according to the authors, those who suffer from this problem hardly respond physiologically when they see an angry face , unlike the rest of the population, which reacts by sweating and accelerating breathing.
