Being sedentary can take away your youth. If you don't move a finger in your spare time, the telomeres – protective endings of chromosomes – of the cells that make up your immune system will shorten very quickly. Such a decline has negative consequences, since the smaller these areas of human DNA are, the older you are on a biological level .
As scientists at King's College London recently revealed in the publication Archives of Internal Medicine , sedentary life – which, for practical purposes, could translate into spending less than 200 minutes a week in some physical activity – our body deteriorates faster and we can prematurely suffer from type diabetes, cancer, hypertension and osteoporosis.
