What is post orgasmic syndrome?

Dutch scientists have discovered a syndrome that makes men sick with a flu-like ailment after orgasm, which could be caused by an allergy to semen itself.

According to the researcher Marcel Waldinger, from the University of Utrecht, reveals in the Journal of Sexual Medicine , the syndrome is known as POIS or post orgasmic syndrome , and it has been documented since 2002, when it was discovered that some men, within minutes of ejaculating , they began to have the symptoms of the flu: high fever, general malaise, itchy eyes and nose …

For their studies, Waldinger and his colleagues looked at 45 Dutch men who were diagnosed with the disease. Thirty-three of them agreed to undergo a skin allergy test using a diluted form of their own semen . Of those, 88 percent had a positive skin reaction that indicated an autoimmune response or allergic reaction.

In a second study, Waldinger's team decided to try treating two of the volunteers with hyposensitization therapy , used to treat allergies, that repeatedly exposes the body to small amounts of the allergen that gradually increase over several years. The results showed that after one and three years respectively, the patients showed a significant reduction in their symptoms.
