In the coming year it will be extremely hot in some parts of the USA. Researchers expect temperatures of up to 52 degrees Celsius.
Washington, DC – Drought, heat and extreme weather events – the consequences of climate change are now clearly being felt, also in the USA. It’s supposed to get pretty hot there in the coming year. According to a new forecast, people have to be prepared for enormous temperatures.
This is the result of a study by the NGO First Street Foundation. It examined the emergence of increasing extreme temperatures and heat waves in the United States.
Weather in the USA: Researchers expect extreme heat in the coming year
About eight million people will face extreme heat in the coming year, the organization’s report said on Monday (August 15). By the year 2053, the numbers are expected to increase 13-fold. Then 107 million people are said to be affected by high temperatures, climbing up to 125 degrees Fahrenheit (about 52 degrees Celsius) on at least one day a year.
According to the organization, the heat will be geographically concentrated primarily in the center of the country. The so-called “extreme heat belt” is said to extend from the borders of North Texas and Louisiana to Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
Data sets from the US federal government were used to calculate the forecast, which were supplemented with existing research results and thermal modelling, among other things. To create the model, the researchers measured the local heat risk using satellite data on air and surface temperatures between 2014 and 2020, among other things. But factors such as the altitude of an area, the absorption of water and the distance to a body of water or the coastal region were also taken into account.
Weather in the USA: Particularly high temperatures are expected in Florida
“The model clarifies the local impacts of climate change by identifying the seven hottest days expected for any region this year and calculating how many of those days would occur 30 years from now,” the research report said.

It would be particularly hot in Miami-Dade County (Florida). There, the temperatures of the hottest seven days are currently 103 degrees Fahrenheit – about 39 degrees Celsius. According to the model, 34 days of the year would be expected in 2053 with such temperatures.
In Germany, too, the temperatures repeatedly reach maximum values. That harbors dangers. The summer of 2022 is mainly characterized by forest fires, drought and heat waves. Italy in particular is suffering from the extreme drought. (cheese)
