Until now it was thought that the age of our planet was 4.53 billion years, but German, Swiss and British astronomers have just calculated that it is actually between 4.4 billion and 4.51 billion years old . That is, it is between 20 and 90 million years younger than previously believed.
The results of the study, carried out by scientists from the Universities of Munster, Cambridge and the Zurich Technique, are based on the analysis of the impact of the collisions of other bodies with the Earth .
"The most important thing is that this age agrees with that of the Moon," explains Klenie Thorsten, a professor at the Institute of Planetology in the German city of Munster, who has published his findings in Nature Geoscience .
According to the expert, the calculations that had been made about the age of our planet did not take into account that the earth's crust has marks from the bodies from which it was formed.
