The addiction capacity of a drug depends on many factors. Among the main ones, the receptivity of the user's body stands out. In this regard, doctors Jack E. Henninfield, from the National Institute of Drug Abuse in the United States, and Neal L. Benowitz, from the University of California, have elaborated addiction charts based on factors such as withdrawal – severity of symptoms abstinence-, dependence -difficulty to stop the drug- and tolerance -need for increasing doses to achieve the same effect-. According to their results, heroin is the most addictive among illegal drugs, followed closely by cocaine . Among the legal ones, nicotine unquestionably occupies the first place, both in difficulty to quit and in the gradual increase in doses. Alcohol , although not as addictive, produces more mono when its abusive use is stopped.
