Wet or dry? When it comes to shaving, this is often a question of taste. In any case, the choice should not depend on expensive shaving agents for wet shaving. Even cheaper shaving foam convinces in the test.
Frankfurt/Main – Anyone who shaves their beard regularly often uses shaving gel or shaving foam. Because when shaving wet, they should let the blade slide more easily over the skin. The magazine “Öko-Test” examined 22 shaving products (issue 9/22).
The pleasing result: Nine shaving foams scored “very well” – including the only natural cosmetic product tested (“Lavera Men Sensitive Mild Shaving Foam”) as well as several inexpensive own brands from drugstores and supermarkets. Six products received the test result “good”.
The eco-testers were particularly impressed by the fact that none of the shaving products tested had allergenic fragrances – they are often a problem in men’s cosmetics with a distinctive fragrance.
Gentle shaving does not need plastic connections
However, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) was used as an antioxidant in five shaving products. The substance is suspected of impairing thyroid function. The formulations of four shaving products contain synthetic polymers, i.e. plastic compounds that do not degrade in the environment over a long period of time – and which, according to “Öko-Test”, could easily be dispensed with.
Overall, the testers awarded the grade “sufficient” twice, five products were rated “satisfactory”.
By the way, a tip from the testers for wet shaving: apply shaving foam or shaving gel a few minutes before shaving. This allows the hard whiskers to soften before the blade is applied. dpa
