A woman repeatedly abused her marmoset. How animal rights activists managed to find and free the little monkey lady.
Newport – Animal rights activists in the UK have rescued a marmoset that was nearly flushed down the toilet by its owner.
As the animal protection association RSPCA announced on Thursday at the request of the German Press Agency, the animal rights activists became aware of the fate of the monkey in the Welsh city of Newport via mobile phone videos that were sent to them. It shows an attempt being made to flush it down the toilet. In other videos, a woman offers the animal cocaine or hot porridge to scald itself. Laughter can be heard in the background.
Found a partner in the monkey house
According to the RSPCA, after being rescued in January this year, the initially terrified female monkey named Milly was taken to a monkey house in Dorset, England, where she has since recovered from the abuse. It even found a partner named Moon, the statement said. “Moon was quick to respond to Milly’s calls for help and has always been by her side to offer encouragement – this has helped her regain confidence,” the statement said. Now the couple is inseparable and enjoys hunting insects and being together in their large enclosure.
Milly’s former owner has been banned from keeping animals for life and given a suspended prison sentence, according to the PA news agency. dpa
