Pavel Filatiev is one of the few soldiers who rebelled against Russia in the Ukraine war. Now he is destroying his ties to the country.
Paris – Pavel Filatiev, Russian ex-soldier, no longer wants to be associated with Russia. In an airport toilet in Paris, the man tore up all the documents that identified him as a citizen. He then flushed them down the toilet, as reported by The Guardian and t-online . A return to the country of Vladimir Putin is therefore impossible and would probably also be dangerous. The ex-soldier had previously settled accounts with his country.
“It took me weeks to understand that there was no war on Russian soil and that we simply invaded Ukraine,” he writes in his diary. Commanders would not have cared about subordinates. “Most people in the army are dissatisfied with what is happening there, they are dissatisfied with the government and its commanders, they are dissatisfied with Putin and his policies, they are dissatisfied with the defense minister, who himself has never served in the army ‘” said Filiatiev.
War in Ukraine: Filatiev’s diary caused a stir
The diary caused a stir because there are few soldiers in Russia who rebel against the Kremlin. “It may not change anything, but I refuse to take part in this madness. Ethically, it would be easier if Ukraine attacked us, but the truth is that we invaded Ukraine and the Ukrainians didn’t invite us,” Filatiev said.
Andrey U., who claims to have volunteered for the Russian military, also reports on his experiences in the Ukraine war. “Some people couldn’t take it, they shot themselves,” he says. Others would have shot themselves in the leg on purpose so that they no longer had to fight. “I told my mother that everything she saw on TV was lies, but she didn’t believe me,” the volunteer said.
Ukraine war: Andrey U. also rebelled against Russia
His mother thought he was under hypnosis. Andrey U. is now a Ukrainian prisoner of war. He warns people who also want to fight. “Don’t come here,” he says in a video. (mse)
