A fatal accident has occurred in a zoo in Sweden. Unusually, no predator was involved, but an antelope.
Munich / Stockholm – An antelope that ends a person’s life: This unusual incident happened in Sweden. A large antelope – actually known as an animal as a shy herbivore, but equipped with long horns – attacked a zoo employee and speared him.
Although the deceased employee had many years of experience with antelope, he was unable to prevent the attack. After the park was closed on Sunday evening, the animal was to be brought into the stable, a police spokesman said on Swedish radio on Monday.
Antelope does not need to be euthanized for now
“Something happened in connection with that that resulted in the antelope impaling him.” It’s an eland, called an eland. Park owner Richard Berglund, who was present at the incident himself, said: “We were going to feed the animals and suddenly it attacked. We’ve never had any problems with the animals before.” Berglund spoke of a “sad day.”
The zoo remained closed the following day. The police have launched an investigation into the case. “We take this case extremely seriously and are investigating a criminal record in the work environment,” police spokesman Rickard Lundqvist said. It doesn’t mean anyone is under suspicion.”
The death of the employee has no consequences for the animal for the time being: it is currently impossible that the animal will have to be euthanized or have to leave the zoo after the animal keeper was fatally injured. (cg)
There are more and more wolves in Austria: they killed almost 500 sheep, goats and cattle. Their population is expected to double soon. Is there a rethinking of the protection laws?
