“Also clever” is a new edition of the successful game “Pretty Clever” – age-appropriate for younger game fans.
This is how the publisher describes the game: There’s a lot going on at this party: balloons, candles, gifts and lots of cake. There’s something for everyone. Cleverly ticking off the rolled symbols scores many victory points and additional moves. But beware! Any dice that you don’t use remain for the other players. So everyone is always in the game and nobody has to wait long.
Review by Hunter and Melli: Since 2019, fans of dice games have found a new home. “Pretty Clever” by author Wolfgang Warsch has already provided countless enjoyable hours of play. The recipe for success: Clever bonuses and a dice mechanism that allows players whose turn it is not at the moment to play.

With “Also clever”, the author now proves that he understands like no other how to make his games for children. The basic principle remains the same. Each child gets a piece of paper and a pen. Then the player whose turn it is rolls the five dice and gets to choose a dice color to cross off the symbols on his or her block. All players can then choose a color from the remaining dice.
The theme is particularly ingenious and child-friendly. We are playing children’s birthday party and the different colors of the dice indicate different birthday activities such as unwrapping gifts, eating cake, blowing out candles or popping balloons. In this way, the children are reminded of the most beautiful day of the year while playing and are all the more enthusiastic about it.
The series
The games experts Johannes Jaeger and Melanie I. regularly present board games in the FR. Video reviews of all the games presented here (and more) are available at www.hunter-brettspiele.de and on YouTube.
And in fact, real cleverness is also required in this game in order to win in the end. Bonus crosses can be earned in the various areas of the block, which means that additional symbols can be crossed off – and this of course unlocks even more bonuses. Those who cleverly trigger these small chain reactions will gain an advantage and possibly leave the field as a winner.
But the selection of the dice also needs to be carefully considered. Which symbols will get me the fastest and which ones shouldn’t I leave to my fellow players?
“Also clever” is fun for children, parents and grandparents and works in every line-up. Best of all, it’s the perfect set-up for Pretty Clever and its equally clever sequels.
