It was gone for a long time, now it’s back: the mustache. But the look is not easy to care for. Breakdowns can easily happen, especially when shaving.
Hamburg – From pencil to walrus beard: There are around 30 different mustache shapes. And they are being worn more often again. “The mustache is currently very trendy,” observes Dirk Schlobach, founder of several barber salons. But anyone who dares to attempt a mustache needs a steady hand.
The contour and the volume have to be right. The purr gets on the face, whether it is a narrow pencil or a voluminous walrus version, through a combination of shaving and fiddling with scissors. Better not to slip with either.
“You also shave the shape of the mustache, so you have to work very accurately,” says Schlobach. Symmetry is particularly important. “You have to make sure that you have an even shape on the left and right.”
The best thing to do is cut a little less at first so that you can correct it later.
Wash and brush daily
The following applies to wet shaving around the mustache: Always shave in the direction of growth to avoid skin irritation. And use a fresh blade so the hair doesn’t just get plucked out.
In addition, such a mustache must be regularly cared for. Crumbs in the beard: A no-go. It is best to wash the mustache every day. Schlobach advises using a special beard shampoo. This has a higher moisture content than normal hair shampoo and makes the beard more supple. Since beard hair is often drier than the hair on the head and becomes brittle more quickly, beard oil can also be useful. It softens the hair.
Also: Shape your beard every day with a fine comb. The skin flakes under the beard can be removed with a brush. Beard wax, beard pomade or a wax are suitable for styling twisted ends. dpa
