Emmanuel Macron, President of France: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II embodied the continuity and unity of the British nation for over 70 years. I will remember her as a friend of France, a queen with a heart who left her mark on her country and her century forever. (…) With her death, we all feel an emptiness.”

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Federal President: “Germany mourns the loss of the Queen. We remain committed to their example of friendship, peace and humanity.”

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission: “She has given us all stability and trust over the years. She showed tremendous courage. In my eyes, she is a legend.”

Joe Biden, US President: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than a monarch. She shaped an era. (…) She endured the dangers and hardships of a world war alongside the British people and rallied them during the devastation of a global pandemic.”

Mario Draghi, Italian Prime Minister: “She stood for stability in times of crisis and upheld the value of traditions in an ever-changing society.”

Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor: “Queen Elizabeth II was a role model and inspiration for millions, including here in Germany. Her commitment to German-British reconciliation after the horrors of World War II will not be forgotten. She will be missed, not least her wonderful sense of humor.”
