Is it true that Everest has

Everest is not as high as has been believed so far. At least that is what scientists from the Department of Cartography of China say, which last year measured the highest height on Earth. The conclusions do not fall to this mountain known to Tibetans as Chomolungma, or Mother Goddess of the Earth, from its privileged position among the highest peaks on the planet. The calculations made show a height of 8,844.43 meters, that is, 3.70 m lower than what was considered valid . The previous Chinese measurement was made in 1975, determining its height at 8,848.13 meters. In 1999, and for the first time with the help of GPS, the National Geographic Society made a new measurement, concluding its height at 8,850 meters. What Chinese cartographers have not been able to determine is what caused the lowering of the elevation. Some think it is because of global warming , which has thinned the ice at the summit.
