While Windows 10 has become one of the most used operating systems in the world, which has been available since 2015 and has managed to conquer the majority of users thanks to the fact that its developers made a radical and necessary change After Windows 8, it seems that Windows 10X would be a new simplified edition that, according to many sources, should be released sometime later this year.
Not surprisingly, although a final release date is not in sight for now, it seems that Windows 10X is gaining more and more attention, because it would originally be a new version derived from the original.
What exactly is Windows 10X?
It was in October 2019, at Microsoft’s Surface event, that Windows 10X was first introduced to the world. Specifically, the announcement was made together with the presentation of the Surface Neo , the first device in the family to include a dual screen.
Although this device powerfully attracted the attention of many, and even when its official launch was expected sometime in the summer of last year, after the crisis caused by the current coronavirus pandemic, its arrival on the market has been postponed indefinitely, until point that Microsoft has decided to remove their official page on their website.
However, far from abandoning the entire project, it seems that the Redmond company has decided to go one step further with Windows 10X, redistributing this simplified edition of its popular operating system to computers with a single screen.
A measure, incidentally, that would seem to indicate that Microsoft has not completely abandoned the Surface Neo project, since one of its objectives would be to perfect the system as much as possible to offer, in the future, a better version specifically aimed at users. dual screen devices.
What would we find in Windows 10X? How is?
It would be a new edition of Windows 10 that would be reminiscent of the previous Windows RT, which was released in 2012 and which, at that time, was promoted as an OS derived from Windows 8, specially developed for use on touch devices.
Later, in 2017, Microsoft released Windows 10S, an educational version with a focus on security and performance, which is still available on Microsoft’s official site.
However, after many users showed their frustration at not being able to install applications other than through the official Windows store, the American giant was forced to withdraw the RT version from the market.
Hence, Microsoft has decided to first take the step of distributing version 10X on single-screen devices, and see how it works.
The interface is renewed
As those who have already tried it think, one of the main differences that we find between Windows 10 and Windows 10X is its interface. In fact, the Windows 10X interface has been completely reinvented .
In this way, the traditional Start menu now becomes a kind of “launcher”, located in the middle of the taskbar, which will always be located at the bottom of the screen, and that after pressing it, offers a tool search, direct access to certain applications and access to recent documents.
On the desktop, in addition, we also find a simplified notification bar, by reducing the number of available buttons to the maximum.
On the other hand, OneDrive , Microsoft’s popular online storage space, will now be directly integrated into the system. And the classic File Explorer has been completely redesigned in order to include, by default, a backup of our documents in the cloud, through the Microsoft account.
In turn, Windows 10X is based on very strict partitions , so that we will find a partition accessible read-only for the system, and a user partition accessible only to the user.
