Android 12 could prevent apps from spying on you

Apple recently launched a very useful privacy function in iOS to offer users of their devices (iPhone or iPad) to select whether applications can record the tracking of what we do in other apps through a pop-up notification from which the developer you must first ask users for permission to follow.

This time we have learned that the new privacy indicators that will come with Android 12 could help us see when applications are recording our data (or even when they are listening to us). What’s more, some experts believe it could change the way we use our smart devices.

And, although it would be a similar functionality to that already launched by Apple in iOS a few weeks ago, it seems that Google wants to offer much more detailed information , in addition to showing a much more complete context about all the system functions that are used in the actuality. Basically, it would be one more step for users to regain control of how their data is shared .

In fact, until originally recently, data collection (and privacy itself) were not well known to the general public. Now, operating systems like Android with the release of its version 12 will give users a specific moment to be able to have the opportunity to participate or not.

How would it work on Android 12?

It seems that privacy notifications are something Google has been working on for quite some time. For example, as with iOS 14, the indicators would be displayed along the notification bar, specifically at the top of the Android device screen.

But we would find a quite remarkable difference: unlike Apple’s operating system for iPhone, Android would include an icon with the particular function that would be being used at that specific moment.

Regardless of the fact that we are not computer experts, there is no doubt that this functionality would help us to obtain more or less approximate information about the use that apps would be making of our data, since we could see exactly what accesses without having to memorize the meaning of colors (in the case of iOS, for example, Apple decided to use a green dot to indicate when an app is using the camera, and an orange dot for audio).

However, it is clear that there is still a lot to do, since one of the main problems is that many people do not understand how their data is obtained, captured and shared. So, at least, the arrival of these new indicators would help to understand when their data could be captured .
