Having a new iPhone is always extremely exciting, especially if it is the latest version of the device developed by Apple. But whenever we make the change from an old iPhone to a newer one, it is normal that we want to transmit the most important data, as for example, it could be the case of text messages .
Luckily, it is not very difficult to transfer the messages to a new iPhone, as long as we know how to do it. And it is that moving text messages from one device to another is quite simple, since all we have to do is a backup of Messages , and then proceed to install that backup on our new phone.
In this sense, Apple offers us the possibility of doing it in three different ways, in such a way that it is possible to enable the Messages option in the cloud (which will place all our texts in iCloud), carrying out a backup in iCloud (not to be confused with the previous option), or make a backup copy on a Mac or PC.
Of course, keep in mind something fundamental: the instructions that we indicate throughout this article apply only to the official Apple text message application, which, as you surely know, is known by the name of Messages , the which comes pre-installed on our iPhone.
This means that the steps we provide do not cover other texting apps, such as WhatsApp (although we will also explain how to do it).
Transferring Messages from iPhone to iPhone via iCloud
This is possibly one of the easiest ways to transfer messages from iPhone to iPhone , using the Messages option in iCoud .
The truth is that it consists of a functionality that we find in iCloud from version 11.4 of iOS, in such a way that, when we have this option enabled, it works identically to the synchronization of the rest of iCloud sections, such as Photos or Calendar , among others.
In fact, the system automatically uploads the content to our iCloud account, and then all other devices that have logged into the same account could later be downloaded in the new terminal. And it’s an option that covers both standard text messages and iMessages. And how to do it ?:
- On our old iPhone we click on Settings .
- We touch on our name, and then click on iCloud .
- Now we simply go to the Messages section, located between Notes and Safari, and all we have to do is slide the control until it is marked in green.
- Finally, in the new phone to which we want to transfer the messages, we only have to log in to the same iCloud account , and follow the same steps that we have indicated above to enable the Messages option in iCloud.
Moving messages to our new iPhone using iCloud
If we have an old phone, we do not want to pay for additional iCloud storage or even we simply do not want our text messages to be saved in the cloud, there is another option when it comes to moving messages to our new iPhone.
And it is to do it by restoring from a backup . Here’s how:
- On our current iPhone, click on the Settings icon.
- We click on our name and then we touch iCloud .
- Now click on Copy to iCloud .
- And, once this is done, we move the slider of Copy in iCloud .
- Now, click on Back up now to start carrying out a backup right away. How long it takes will depend on the amount of data that the system has to back up, although it will most likely not take long, just a few minutes.
- The moment the backup is complete, we will start setting up our new iPhone. Thus, just when it is time to decide how to configure it, we must choose the option Restore from the backup , then choosing the iCloud backup that we have just carried out.
Transferring messages to the new iPhone using a Mac or PC
If we do not want to make a backup copy of text messages in iCloud, and we still need to transfer them to a new iPhone, then we must follow the old method that was carried out until recently, and which consists of making a copy data security on a Mac or PC :
- First, we connect our previous iPhone to the Mac or the PC (depending on the type of computer we use).
- We open a new Finder window (if we use Mac), or iTunes (if we use a PC).
- Click on the Locations section, located in the left sidebar, and click on the iPhone .
- On the iPhone administration screen, click on Make backup now .
- When the backup is complete, we will begin to configure our new iPhone. Finally, when the system asks us how to configure it, we must choose the Restore from backup option. Thus, we just have to connect the new iPhone to the Mac or PC, and select the backup.
In this way, we will have the most important messages on our new iPhone, which will ensure that we do not lose any.
