OneDrive consists of a cloud storage platform that provides a large amount of space completely free of charge, with the only condition of using it through a Microsoft account .
We could assimilate it to a hard drive in the cloud, which we can share and which, in addition, provides us with a series of additional benefits, including extremely useful and interesting, such as connecting OneDrive to Windows 10 or to the Mac in case we also use a computer from Apple.
What’s more, we could find some similarities between Apple’s traditional iCloud and Microsoft’s OneDrive. For example, both options allow us to enjoy 5 GB of storage in the cloud completely free of charge. Although it is true that, then, there are quite a few differences.
Installing Microsoft OneDrive on a Mac with macOS Sierra or later
Remember that in order to use OneDrive you need a Microsoft account . Then, if we are going to use it through a Mac, it is also essential to have a corresponding app.
To do this, we must create a Microsoft account , in case we do not have one in advance. And, once created (which will provide us with the Microsoft ID necessary to access this storage service), we must download the OneDrive app , which we will find in the App Store.
We open the App Store and type OneDrive in the search bar. When the application that interests us appears, we select the Obtain option to download it.
Then, we open the app and enter the credentials of our Microsoft account. To complete the installation, we choose a default location for our OneDrive folder, clicking Choose OneDrive folder location . From that moment on, we will already have OneDrive on our Mac. But how can we use it?
How to use OneDrive on a Mac
Do not forget that Microsoft OneDrive basically consists of a cloud-based storage solution , similar to iCloud Drive, which we connect by default with a certain folder hosted on our Mac. In this way, any file or folder that we include within it will pass immediately to the OneDrive cloud storage system.
Then, it is possible to access our folder from a web browser, from the app that we just installed on the Mac, or from our iPhone or iPad (through the OneDrive application for iOS devices).
Therefore, as long as we have space in OneDrive, we can upload any type of file or folder. Of course, in case you run out, Microsoft has a series of rates to expand the storage capacity whenever we need it.
