Making a backup copy of our iPhone regularly, from time to time, is a fundamental option to restore the device when an incident or problem occurs that prevents us from using it normally.
However, these backups can take up a lot of space on the computer, so it is possible that, on some occasions, we need to delete iPhone backups when we need to have some space for any other function.
As we have already explained to you at some point or other, Apple decided to eliminate iTunes for backup copies, replacing this functionality with individual applications for specific services. For example, through the Finder application it is possible to make copies of the device easily.
Deleting iPhone backups on computer via iTunes
Through iTunes it is quite simple to manually delete the backup copies of our old iPhone. As long as, of course, we know what steps to follow to achieve it.
First of all, on our computer (or Mac), we must open iTunes . Now click on iTunes and Preferences , and click on Devices . Now, we click on the name of the backup that we want to delete from the hard drive, and, once selected, click on the Delete backup button.
A pop-up window will appear where the application will ask us if we want to continue with the process of eliminating the copy. Click on Delete again, and finally on OK .
Deleting backup copies of our iPhone on the computer manually
In case you do not want to use iTunes, it is still possible to delete backup copies of our old iPhone manually, finding them on the computer. Of course, this option is available on both Windows and Mac computers, including those running macOS Catalina .
On the Mac, click on the magnifying glass icon that we will find in the menu bar, which is located in the upper right part. Now we copy and paste the following in the search bar:
~ / Library / Application Support / MobileSync / Backup /
We press Enter and click Backup . Now, we hold down the Cmd + Delete keys to delete said folder.
Deleting backups on the Mac with macOS Catalina
Since macOS Catalina no longer uses iTunes, the process to follow is a bit different when we want to delete a backup from our iPhone.
We must connect our iPhone to the Mac . We open Finder , and click on the device name of our iPhone. Once this is done, click on General and Manage backup copies .
Now we simply click on the backup that we want to delete. Once selected, we click on Delete backup , and finally we confirm by clicking on OK .
