Windows 10 , the latest version of the operating system developed by Microsoft, automatically checks for new updates, mainly from the moment automatic maintenance has been configured. In this way, when this option is activated, the OS will automatically download and install not only important, but also critical system updates, by default.
In most cases, automatic updates are activated by default, although in some cases this is not the case, so we can do two things: either search for updates manually, or, precisely, proceed to activate the automatic search.
Of course, as we explained earlier, in the same way that we can activate automatic updates we can also deactivate them, which will offer us, almost without a doubt, greater control over them, choosing only the criticisms or those that more interest us.
Why is it important to update our Windows computer?
From time to time, Microsoft releases a series of updates that include not only security updates, but also the expansion of certain functions and improvements, so it is always very interesting to keep our computer properly updated.
For example, it is common for updates to include new drivers or drivers so that our peripherals, monitors and printers work properly.
Using Windows Update in Windows 10
If you have been using Windows for a long time, it is very likely that you are already familiar with Windows Update . It consists of a free service from Microsoft that is used to provide operating system updates, such as patches and service packs, among others.
In addition, it can also be used to update drivers for the most popular hardware devices. But there is no doubt that the most important updates have to do with patches and security updates, which are routinely released through this feature on the second Tuesday of each month.
When it comes to configuring when the automatic updates will be installed , the process to follow is quite simple. We must go to the Settings section, and within the Windows Settings screen, click on the Update and security section (where Windows Update is precisely located).
Now, in the Update Settings section, we must click on the Advanced Options button. In the section Choose when the updates will be installed we can configure, to our liking, when the automatic updates will take place, or even postpone them.
We can even schedule update installations at your convenience, by selecting the Change active hours option. Thus, it is possible to specify what hours we usually use the device, to prevent the system from restarting.
