The Messages application that can be found on most Apple devices (including iPhone, iPad and Mac), provides users with a fairly convenient way to communicate with family, friends and work colleagues, all through a wide variety of devices.
In short, we could define it as the secure messaging service developed by Apple . That is, as a kind of chat platform , totally free and useful, which in turn would support the inclusion and reception of common text messages.
In this way, it offers us the possibility of sending unlimited messages to any iPhone, iPad, Mac or even iPod Touch or Apple Watch. As long as, of course, that other device is also using the application.
Its configuration is quite simple and straightforward, both on Mac (macOS) and on the iPhone or iPad (IOS), although it is necessary to follow a series of basic steps in order to even keep our messages synchronized between the Mac and the different IOS devices. that we are also using.
Configuring Messages on our Mac
To begin, we must start the Messages application from the dock, desktop or the Applications folder of our Mac. We must bear in mind that, by default, the application will use our Apple ID in order to log in. But if this is not the case, it is possible to add the email address and password of the Apple ID that we use regularly.
Now click on Messages , within the menu bar that we will find located at the top of the screen, and then on Preferences .
Once this is done, we must go to the Messages tab. We choose the phone number and email addresses with which we would like to be contacted.
Finally, we choose which phone number and / or email address people will see each time we start a new conversation.
Setting up Messages in iCloud (on Mac) to keep everything in sync
In addition to configuring the application itself with our Apple ID, phone number and email address, if we want all the messages we receive and send to be kept in sync, it is necessary to proceed to configure Messages in iCloud within macOS .
To do this we must open Messages again from the Applications folder, dock or desktop. Click again on Messages , in the main menu bar, and then click on Preferences , placing us in the Messages tab.
Now we must click on the checkbox next to the option Enable messages in iCloud . Finally, if we want the synchronization to start immediately, we simply have to click on the Synchronize now button.
In this way, we have configured (easily and in a few seconds) the synchronization of Messages, to ensure that we can find the different messages that we send and receive, on the different Apple devices that we use every day.
How to set up Messages in iCloud on iOS
Luckily, the Messages configuration in iOS is characterized by being quite simple. So much so that it is not necessary to do anything else except log in with our Apple ID when we configure the device for the first time.
Of course, the same does not happen with the synchronization option. And, if we want to make the most of Messages in iCloud, it is equally essential to activate it on any iOS or iPadOS device that we are using.
To do this we must open Settings on our iPhone or iPad, and press the Apple ID banner . Click on iCloud and touch the switch that we will find located next to Messages so that it changes, acquiring the characteristic green “on” color.
Clever! This is all we have to do. From now on, we can find all the messages sent and received within Messages both on our Mac (or Macbook) and on the iPhone or iPad, simply, quickly and easily.
