When we work with Windows or with macOS (or, in short, with practically any operating system), we may want to select several files to copy between folders, delete them or even move them all at once.
In the same way, it is also possible that we need to select all the text of a certain document, to proceed to copy it on a new page or any other file.
The truth is that both with the mouse and the keyboard it is perfectly possible to do it, simply, quickly and easily. Do you want to find out how? We explain it step by step, both on Windows and Mac.
How to select all items in Windows
Using Windows Explorer
If we are inside the Windows Explorer window, it is possible to use the different menu items, which we will find located in the upper left part of the window, to be able to select all the elements we want.
How? Very simple: we click on a folder whose content we want to select, on the left side of the window. Click on Start , in the upper left corner, and click on Select All (which we will find in the Select section of the toolbar at the top of the window.
Using the keyboard shortcut
In any screen or window of the computer it is possible to select each element, pressing simultaneously a certain number of letters of the keyboard at the same time.
The process is as simple as clicking on the page or window that we want to select, and pressing Ctrl + A at the same time.
Using the context menu
With the help of our mouse we can also select all the elements that we want on the screen. To do this, we must click with the right button, in order to display the drop-down menu, and then click on Select all .
How to select all items on Mac
In case you use a Mac instead of Windows (regardless of which version of macOS you are using), it is also possible to select all the elements that are selectable on the screen.
Using the Edit menu
In most applications that we can use on Mac we find the Edit menu, within which we can choose the Select all option, in the drop-down menu that appears when we click on it.
To do this, we just have to go to the window where we want to select text or files, go to the top menu that we will find located at the top of the screen, click on Edit , and finally on Select all .
Of course, if this option is grayed out, it means that it will not be possible to use this functionality.
Using keyboard shortcuts
As with Windows, in macOS it is also possible to select each item that is selectable, jointly and automatically, by pressing a couple of keys at the same time.
To do this, we just have to go to the page or window that we want to select, and press Command + A at the same time.
In this way, we will be able to copy all the elements that can be easily copied, in a few seconds and without any kind of effort.
