Most monitors come with the horizontal configuration, so it is not possible to physically modify the rotation of the monitor when we need it. Fortunately, more and more computer screens, especially those designed for certain sectors (such as photography and graphic design, for example), incorporate the option of physically rotating the screen , so that we can choose for modifying the rotation according to the needs we have at all times.
What advantages does it offer? When we have vertical monitors we have more space, so that developers, for example, can view a greater amount of code. Although it will depend on the size of each monitor, while a horizontal screen can display 46 lines of code, a vertical monitor can display around 84, which is an increase of 82 percent.
In addition, our view also usually appreciates it. And it is that having a vertical screen allows a much more natural eye movement , since it is easier to read text and code in the same way as we would with a book. Neck movements also tend to be less tense , so we can prevent unnecessary contractures and pain.
Rotating the computer screen in Windows 10
First, we must right-click anywhere on the desktop, clicking on the Screen Settings option, which will open a window where you can configure the section dedicated to Orientation (which consists of the different ways to view our screen).
The options that will appear are the following: Horizontal, Vertical, Horizontal (flipped) and Vertical (flipped). We only have to select the option that interests us the most.
There is also another possibility that will depend on the processor we are using (Intel or AMD). In this sense, the configuration can vary, although in general they tend to be slightly similar.
In case you are using an Intel processor , clicking on the screen with the right click it is possible to appear a button such as Graphics Options . If so, you just have to click on the Rotation option, and select the option that interests you.
Rotating the screen on Mac
With macOS it is also possible to rotate the image that appears on the screen. To do this, on the Mac we must select the Apple start menu, System Preferences , click on Screens and, finally, we choose the Screen option.
Now we must click on the drop-down menu, and click on Rotate or Rotation . Finally, we choose the value that we like the most.
Of course, it is necessary to take into account something essential: if no drop-down menu appears, it is quite likely that our Mac or the screen (in case of using a Mac Mini or a secondary external screen) is not compatible with this functionality.
