Although it is still possible to acquire the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in second-hand stores, or where there may even have been some unsold stock, we must bear in mind that Apple does not provide the software update after a few years have passed from the moment. where the particular device has been discontinued. This is what happened, for example, last year with iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which could not go to iOS 13 .
This is because the iPhone update cycle is 4 years , which means that those who wish to have an updated iPhone in terms of the version of the operating system, “should” change it at least every 4 years. . Thus, those who had an iPhone 6s last year would most likely be forced to change devices if they wanted to opt for a new version of iOS.
However, especially in terms of design, it is common that many users still long for or feel a certain nostalgia for the traditional Home button that Apple decided to introduce from the iPhone 4, but which finally eliminated with the arrival of the iPhone X a few years ago. .
In this sense, and with the intention of offering users an iPhone with a traditional design, with the classic button, with the latest in technology, but a much more affordable price , a few years ago, specifically on March 21, 2016, Apple decided to introduce the iPhone SE . We discover everything you need to know about this interesting version.
What is the iPhone SE?
We could say that the iPhone SE is characterized by being a small iPhone that has a design and appearance similar to the iPhone 6s , but with more up-to-date and advanced technical features and functionalities.
For example, the first generation iPhone SE (the one presented in mid-2016), had a 64-bit Apple A9 chip with an M9 coprocessor, which, among other things, provided twice the speed of the iPhone 5s, at one point. in which he had already launched the 7 and 7 Plus.
Back then, the design was interesting enough to survive the initially awkward transition motivated by the longer screen on the iPhone 5, plus the rear also improved in appearance.
It is true that the name chosen by the brand became a nod to the Macintosh SE, although as many experts stated, it was actually an iPhone 6s in the body of a 5s , but with an improved camera, a better processor and a Touch ID sensor.
However, the original version with a 4-inch screen was originally discontinued in 2018, although in April of this year Apple decided to present and launch a revolutionary new iPhone SE (dubbed iPhone SE 2020 ), with a 4.7 screen. inches, which has reminded a lot of the iPhone 8, but with some technical features similar to those found in the iPhone 11.
All this at a much lower price, which is why it has become one of the most revolutionary devices of the company so far this year.
Main advantages of the iPhone SE
- Price. It is clear that we are facing one of the most obvious aspects. And it is an iPhone that would have the best quality / price ratio, being a high-quality device at a low price . In fact, the 64 GB version starts from 489 euros, up to 659 euros for the 256 GB version.
- Chip A13 Bionic. We must remember that it is the same chip that we find in high-end devices, such as the iPhone 11 or the iPhone 11 Pro. It uses Apple’s third-generation neural engine, and also has a 3 GB RAM memory.
- Wireless charging. The new iPhone SE works with Qi wireless chargers, which allows us to charge our device without using any cables.
- 4K video recording. It has the ability to record 4K video at 24 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps, as well as cinematic video stabilization and the ability to take 8 megapixel still photos while recording in 4K.
- Bluetooth 5.0. It offers the ability to play audio on two connected devices at the same time.
- IP67 rating. This is a truly rugged phone. For example, it supports a maximum depth of 1 meter up to 30 minutes, as well as being resistant to dust.
- Design. If you loved the design of the iPhone 8, there is no doubt that this version is for you. And it has the same large bezels both at the top and at the bottom. And what’s even better: it continues to have the traditional Touch ID home button.
Disadvantages of the iPhone SE
Although it is true that the cons are less than the pros that this device provides, it is also useful to keep in mind some not so positive aspects:
- Screen. The 4.7-inch screen on the new iPhone SE is characterized by being a liquid crystal display (LCD) rather than OLED, known for creating superior color reproductions, as well as individual pixels that are turned off to obtain true black and dark colors. In addition, devices with OLED are characterized by being more efficient from an energy point of view.
- Touch ID. Although it is true that many people continue to enjoy the home button (which disappeared on the iPhone X), many users have already become accustomed to the facial recognition system of Apple Face ID, so it may be difficult for us to return to the system fingerprint.
As we can see, what would actually be disadvantages other users could consider as advantages, especially if we take into account that, sometimes, the Face ID option does not tend to work very well.
