How to repair Windows XP installation

Although more and more people use Windows 10 on their computers (the latest version of the operating system developed by Microsoft), it is true that, years after the last update was officially released, there are still users who prefer to continue using Windows XP , especially for its simplicity and ease of use. Moreover, it is common to find it still installed on many computers in the Public Administration.

Even when it is a fairly stable operating system, as is the case with absolutely all operating systems on the market, it is not exempt from errors. Moreover, from time to time, it is normal for errors and problems that may end up making it impossible to use the computer.

When something like this happens, the truth is that a repair installation can help to solve many problems, since it restores the most vital files of the computer system, but without touching the personal files. We explain how you can do it.

Repairing Windows XP installation

Whenever we are going to carry out an important change in our computer, it is essential to make a backup of our data . Although, as we have mentioned before, it is true that a repair installation does not have to affect any of your personal files, it is always good to have a backup in order to recover them in case they are deleted or lost. .

Therefore, before starting the process, we must make a backup. The process is very simple: we start by clicking on Start , All Programs , Accessories , System Tools and, finally, we click on Backup . Now the system will ask us if we want to make a backup, or restore one that we have already done before. Obviously, click on Make a backup of files and settings .

Once the backup is done, we start with the steps to restore the Windows XP installation. Remember that you need the Windows XP installation CD (although you can use an ISO image) and the original operating system key.

In case of using the installation CD, we must insert it into the disk drive of our computer. We restart the computer and access the BIOS . To achieve this, we must press the key that the system indicates on the screen (usually it is F2, F10, F12 or Delete). Now we modify the boot order, navigating to the BOOT menu, and change the boot order in such a way that the CD / DVD drive is the first boot device, followed immediately by the hard drive.

Once we have made the change, the computer will restart again, and a message will appear indicating that we must press any key for the system to start from the CD. Right at this point, the installation program will load the files necessary to install Windows, which may take a few minutes.

Then, we must press Enter to continue (instead of directly choosing the Repair installation option). Now we have to accept the Windows license agreement, and select the copy of Windows . The most normal thing is that it is highlighted automatically.

After doing so, we must press the R key on the keyboard, to start the repair process. Now, Windows will begin to remove files from the system, installing new copies. Finally, we choose our preferences and continue with the reinstallation process of our favorite operating system.
