It seems that Motorola – or rather Lenovo – may have sat in the chair with its Motorola Razr, a foldable smartphone that folds into a shell shape , as Samsung has imitated this formula for its new Galaxy Z Flip. Some details and images had already been leaked from this phone, but finally the Korean has made it known at her Unpacked event.
The Galaxy Z Flip has a 6.7-inch touch screen and an aspect ratio of 21: 9: 9 that folds in half, providing many possibilities for the user. When opened, it can be held at different angles.
Samsung has included a hidden hinge and a double CAM mechanism to facilitate the terminal to be opened smoothly and ensures that it has added nylon fibers to avoid dirt and dust.
When closed completely, the gadget looks like a kind of square hand mirror but with rounded shapes. With this appearance it can be carried in your pocket very comfortably.
On the outside front there is a discreet 1.1-inch always-on screen that allows you to see the time and take a quick look at the latest notifications that are received.
The manufacturer has worked closely with Google to add the so-called Flex Mode . Being semi-folded at 90 degrees, in such a way that the bottom one can rest on a surface, the screen is divided in two . Thus, with this L-shape it is possible, for example, to take selfies with the front camera that are seen on the top panel, while activating the controls or settings at the bottom. It can also be used to make video calls with Duo or view YouTube videos.
Another interesting aspect of the Galaxy Z Flip is its multi-active window . The screen would be divided into two independent spaces to perform different tasks or open several applications at the same time. In the Multi-Window tray it is possible to drag and drop the apps that you want to use.
In addition, the Galaxy Z Flip has a 3,000 mAh battery , a fingerprint sensor on the button to launch the camera and does not include an audio jack.
The device has a sale price of around 1,500 euros . Samsung ensures that this new smartphone is capable of resisting up to 200,000 folds .
Samsung’s second folding smartphone
It would be the second folding smartphone of the Korean company after the Galaxy Fold , a device that was shown for the first time at the MWC last year and that has a completely different appearance, since it folds vertically and not horizontally as in this case.
The Galaxy Fold had numerous screen issues that delayed its market launch for several months. Several journalists who had been assigned test units of the terminal detected that it had some failures. The manufacturer initially said they were only related to the test phones, but later halted their launch, canceled the orders and returned the money to those who had pre-ordered.
After solving the problems, this first Samsung folding phone finally began to be sold in September in Korea and in Spain during October. The price of the Galaxy Fold would be much higher than that of the Z Flip , since its starting cost was about 2,000 euros.
