How to stop saving WhatsApp photos on mobile

The WhatsApp mobile application is regularly used by 1.5 billion people around the world. The popular chat platform is incredibly successful, allowing you to send images, videos, and even files for free. But not everything is a field of poppies. Using WhatsApp without help has its drawbacks, since the application automatically downloads -by default- the videos and images to the phone, swallowing the data allocation we have and consuming the device’s storage. Today we tell you how to prevent WhatsApp from saving photos on your smartphone:

Stop saving WhatsApp photos on Android

Logically we have to start this process by opening WhatsApp on our smartphone and going to the window where the chats are shown. Then, select “Settings”, the three vertical dots that you will see in the upper right side of your mobile screen. Go to “Settings”, where you will find three options: mobile data usage, automatic download and call settings.

Disable automatic downloads by unchecking the following “Download with mobile data” options: Photos, Audio, Videos and Documents (if you wish). Repeat the same process with the option “Download with Wi-Fi” (you will find that you can select or delete photos, audio, videos or documents, as in the previous one) and, finally, do the same with the option “Data roaming ”. Click on accept and save the changes. In this way, on the Data and Storage settings screen, “ No file” will appear in each of the “Automatic download” options, ensuring that no object will reach your mobile unless you manually approve the download in each case. . Thus, you must download the photos sent through WhatsApp to view them.

WhatsApp saves these files in a folder found in the Gallery section of the phone. However, it is possible to prevent these photos from appearing here.

For this we can download applications such as Quickpic , which will allow us to navigate between WhatsApp media folders. Again, you will need to download the photos sent via WhatsApp to view them. This WhatsApp folder is usually located in Internal Storage, sometimes called sdcard0.

Then, press and hold the WhatsApp Images folder to select it and do the same with the WhatsApp Video and WhatsApp Audio folders.

Once all three folders are selected, tap on the three dots icon in the upper right corner to Hide it. Do not worry because they will remain visible within WhatsApp.

Stop saving WhatsApp photos on Apple iOs

Start by opening WhatsApp on your iPhone and selecting the Settings button in the lower right corner, then selecting “Storage and Data Usage.” This menu will prominently feature the automatic file download option. For Photos, Audio, Videos, and Documents, select the “Never” option. Once this option is saved, now only the files you choose to download manually will appear on your phone. Also, WhatsApp files can be prevented from appearing in iPhone Camera Roll. Just visit Chats in the Settings menu, open the Save to Camera Roll menu, and turn it off. Clever. This option will prevent the sending of files through WhatsApp from appearing in the Apple iPhone Camera Roll and being synchronized with My Photo Stream.
