Javier Sirvent: 'There will ever be an artificial intelligence that will equal the human'

Is he a preacher? Is he a charlatan? Is it a guru? He defines himself as the Chicote of technology. He says that the same thing that the famous chef does to bring out the colors of those who do not do well in the kitchen, he does in companies. “I do not consider myself an expert in anything, but I am very good at putting things together and I can tell companies what and when they are going to die.”

On his website, his biography defines him as a “visionary who unifies things between the world of science and technology.” And he says that he develops new business models to improve business efficiency through modern technological advances in artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data or the use of materials such as graphene.

He has participated as a speaker in different conferences such as in the IV edition of the Congress of Brilliant Minds organized by Creative Minds. And he has shared the stage with experts such as the founder of Twitter, Evan Henshaw, George Church, a world leader in genetics and molecular engineering, and with Steve Wozniak, founder of Apple along with Steve Jobs.

When we asked him his opinion about the jobs that are going to disappear due to the advance of AI and machines, he points out that “the jobs that are going to be robotized the most, or that should be robotized the most, would be whatever is dangerous, boring or do not want to do anyone. The boring is clear. At the artificial intelligence level, there are already machines that have a learning capacity, and if it is something repetitive, it can be done easily. In dangerous subjects, an infrared camera sees much better than the best of firefighters. And technology will be able to replace these positions because it is not logical for a person to die in a job if a machine can do it. People will have to dedicate themselves to doing things that machines will not do, such as creative work, or relationships with other people ”.

Sirvent also points out that working in a single company is over. And he says that in three or four years, half of Americans will no longer work for a single company. It will arrive in Europe and Spain in five or six years. “And for this time of change, training will be very important. Whoever does not train and does not want to reinvent will lose their job ”.

And continuing in the field of machines and robots, his statement that “there will be robots with feeling” contrasts with that of other experts interviewed by Muy Inteligencia Artificial, such as Ramón López de Mántaras or Jesús Cardeñosa, who see it as Science Fiction . “There are already some robots like Sony’s Aibo that have sentiments, albeit somewhat falsified. And there are algorithms that tell some robots that if they see you sad they want to play with you, for example. That this is done autonomously by artificial intelligence I think we are about five or six years away from achieving it. We are not yet ready for a machine to worry about us ”.

The following statement also contrasts with the opinion of many experts, who do not see anywhere near that AI can at any visible moment, in the medium or in the long term, resemble human intelligence. Javier Sirvent, on the other hand, does believe that there will ever be a super artificial intelligence that will match that of people. Although it does not get wet in when will it be possible.

Speaking of the ethics of algorithms, he quotes the controversial José Luis Cordeiro, a professor at the Singularity University who has predicted that back in the 2040s we will see “the death of death”. Although he does not agree with this statement, Sirvent paraphrases Cordeiro and says that ” we should not be afraid of artificial intelligence but of human stupidity that programs it .” And although we will not be immortal, we will live 120 or 150 years. “We are not mentally prepared, until the next two or three generations, to bear the idea that we can be immortal.”

Regarding the development of autonomous driving thanks to technological advances such as artificial intelligence, Javier Sirvent assures that in the year 2022 we will begin to see autonomous cars circulating, which will coexist with commercial cars, taxi drivers and other types of vehicles. The best automotive experts, a few years ago, said that self-driving would not be possible. But they weren’t experts in artificial intelligence. And even these have fallen short when it comes to venturing the future of driverless cars. ” And “ Waymo” , Aplphabet’s (Google) commitment to self-driving cars, “ will give away cars to its users, because many things will happen inside the car, such as buying, consuming content, advertising, etc.”. Although Google has a very serious competitor here which is Amazon, which is spending a lot of money on logistics, and because it has already integrated its smart assistant Alexa in many cars. And Sirvent asserts, in this same field, that “in ten years between 20% and 30% of the cars that circulate in Madrid will already be autonomous”.
