Android and iPhone , the two major mobile brands that dominate the world market, target different consumer segments. Now, new research carried out by psychologists from the University of Lincoln, Lancaster and Hertfordshire (UK) demonstrates the differences in personality between the two users.
For the study, researchers counted 500 q ue participants had to answer a set of questions about themselves and about their attitude toward your mobile. One of the first conclusions was that iPhone users are more than twice as likely to be women.
In addition, iPhone users see their mobile more as an object that evokes social status, and Android users are less concerned about the fact that their smartphone is owned or chosen by many people.
Main personality differences between iPhone and Android users
The study found key differences in personality: iPhone users show lower levels of honesty and humility and higher levels of emotionality. They were also more outgoing than Android users.
In contrast, Android users were more likely to be male, older, and less interested in social status. In terms of personality, Android device owners showed more honesty and convenience and were less likely to break the rules for personal gain.
With these results, the experts designed and tested software aimed at predicting the type of user according to their mobile phone: the program predicted the type of mobile user above the probability levels.
” In this study, we demonstrated for the first time that an individual’s choice of smartphone operating system can provide useful clues in predicting their personality and other individual characteristics ,” explains David Ellis, co-author of the work.
The findings have been published in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking.
