Volvo Cars will start an ambitious autonomous driving trial next year in the UK to accelerate the introduction of a technology that promises to massively reduce road accidents , as well as free up congested roads and save drivers time.
The Swedish company, whose name is synonymous with safety, is a pioneer in the development of autonomous driving systems around the world. A strategy that is part of its goal that, by 2020, no one who drives a new Volvo will be killed or seriously injured in an accident.
"Autonomous driving represents a step forward in car safety," said Hakan Samuelsson, president and CEO. " The sooner they hit the roads, the more lives will be saved "
Samuelsson will give a seminar in London on May 3, sponsored by Volvo and Thatcham, and entitled "A future with autonomous cars – Implications for the insurance industry" at the Conference Center of America in London.
