Do you find it exasperating when you are driving to see that, suddenly, some light has come on in the car that is supposed to alert you that something is wrong but you do not know how to locate what is happening? It seems that the engine is perfectly fine and, nevertheless, the happy little light is still on … Well, there is a device that works through an app that is installed on any smartphone and that is as if it were talking to your car and were able to detect what is happening to him.
The perfect virtual co-pilot is called Fixd and came out in 2004, but it is prepared to work with cars that were manufactured after 1996, which have an On Board Diagnostics-II (OBD-II) port, designed for the diagnosis of car components. The device is plugged into it, which, in turn, connects to your mobile phone via bluetooth.
Fixd warns you before starting the trip if the car is in optimal driving conditions , if it has a fault or if, directly, it could be dangerous for you to hit the road with it. But, in addition, it specifies the specific failures in question and even informs you about the cost that could be repaired.
You don’t have to be an expert
The team responsible for the creation of FIXD, comes from Georgia Tech , and includes among its ranks biomedical, computer and mechanical engineers. According to themselves, the best thing about this system is its simplicity, since it is designed with any driver in mind, especially those who know nothing or almost nothing about mechanics and car repair.
In this way, if you notice something strange is happening to your car, you can save yourself an unnecessary visit to the workshop and find a quick solution to the problem. Or, on the contrary, you will know that it is urgent that you go to have your vehicle inspected and be able to travel without risks .
