Mars 2117 is the name of the ambitious project of the United Arab Emirates in collaboration with various international scientific institutions. The objective is clear: to build a city on the neighboring red planet Mars, less than a century from now.
The announcement was made public by the Ruler of Dubai himself and Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the UAE forces.
Mars 2117
The Mars 2117 project will include scientific research programs for new researchers specialized in space sciences, as well as the development of faster and more efficient transport vehicles both bound for Mars and departing from Mars to Earth.
The goal of the United Arab Emirates is to build the first habitable city on Mars. T he first step was put to the front of the project to the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), establishing a “generational plan” for the next 100 years. The first stage will be to establish centers for space science, research and robotics and study the technical and logistical aspects related to the Mars project during the next 5 years.
With more than 100 young scientists and engineers with an average age of 27 years (40% are women), the space center had already started work on the manufacture of the first unmanned Arab space probe called ‘Hope probe’ that will be sent to Mars in 2021 as part of the Emirates Mars mission, whose plan has been updated to facilitate the construction of a city on the red planet, in addition to preparing the first imaging satellite to be launched in 2018.
The UAE has emphasized the importance of inspiring new generations to raise their ambitions, broaden their horizons of knowledge, and stimulate scientific curiosity to serve the future of the UAE and its development plans. They want to leave their mark on Humanity.
Thus, the first phase of Mars 2117 will focus on the preparation of human resources capable of achieving scientific advances to facilitate the arrival of human beings on the Red Planet in the coming decades.
